Methods and strategies for shoulder assessment, therapy and exercises management

A lot of shoulder courses focus their practical interventions to common perspective of overhead athletes' research. Nevertheless, a lot of these research is developed in non-European popular sports such like baseball for example. This course offers new paradigms why shoulders get injured and what’s the best therapy according to the identification of the key problems. In this course you learn the importance of the subscapular muscle and its role in the overhead athletes injury and recovery. 
Moreover, it's going to be told the program that followed the Olympic gold medalist Sharon Van der Rouwendaal to recover her injured shoulder with 6-weeks of intervention. 
 
Goal of the course: After completing this course you will be able to:
  • Improve scientific and empirical knowledge about new trends in shoulder physiotherapy.
  • Recognize focus points to prevent athletes shoulder injury.
  • Assess athletes shoulder with reliable and valid methods.
  • Determine which are the main muscles to include in the exercise program.
  • Design individualized and original prevention programs.
 
This is an 60% hand on course and 40% evidence based background.
Day 1: Background and manual therapy.
  • Evidence based background about shoulders’ biomechanics and pathology in sport
  • Shoulder biomechanics in different overhead sports: Not all overhead athletes have the same shoulders’ pathogenesis
  • Why shoulders get injured?
  • Which are the reported indicator of a shoulder potential injury?
  • New trends on Sport physiotherapy: Non-invasive therapies to save the athletes from surgery.
  • Massage therapy in overhead athletes: Key points for massage therapy in all upper limbs motors, included scapular muscles.
 
Day 2: New trends on shoulder assessing methods.
  • Current shoulder tests: Are all reliable and valid?
  • Recognizing focus points to prevent athletes shoulder injury.
  • Assessing athletes shoulder with reliable and valid methods:
    • The use of mobile Apps to assess athletes’ shoulders.
    • Assessing glenohumeral rotation range of movement: Are valid all the tests?
 
Day 3: Programing prevention exercises.
  • Determine which are the main muscles to include in the exercise program.
  • Know different exercise prevention programs.
  • How to use new equipment for prevention exercise programs

From the Airport / Amsterdam city center.
We advise to travel by train from Schiphol airport to Hilversum and get a taxi from the trainstation Hilversum to Klaaskampen 19C. Total cost would be around: (1 way) € 10,00 for the train from Schiphol to Hilversum and approximately € 22,50 for the taxi from train station Hilversum to our location (all prices are estimated prices)
