The NKS™ Foundation consists of:
Day 1:
In this full day of learning you will get all the basics of the NKS system. Learn why we compensate, the strength & flexibility test to check for them and how to reset the body back to a performance state, ensuring your athletes feel and perform great. We will also guide you on how to implement NKS in your setting.
Day 2:
This advanced certification covers aspects of the NKS system that further elevates your ability to help change your athletes & clients performance. We cover finding the primary resets and other intricate pieces of the system that require a solid foundation to understand.
How does it work?
Your body has two priorities for optimal performance; to breathe and move correctly. Most athletes do not, so their bodies find a way to meet those priorities by creating harmful compensation patterns. Compensation patterns are the main cause of non-contact injuries in sport as well as every day aches and pains that limit performance.
But these compensations put us at risk. Our body’s ability to overcome the stresses and pressures of life can result in reduced movement and exercise. You are under constant stress, which is interpreted as survival mode by your body. When in survival mode your body utilizes harmful compensation patterns which can lead to injury.
Measurable reductions in strength, power, flexibility and endurance often occur, leaving our bodies less resilient, and at risk of poor performance, pain and dysfunction, both in the way we move and the way we behave. If you experience a traumatic event or injury, you’ll notice the slow and gradual decline in function and performance. These compensations then get tired, and eventually break.
NKS™ activations makes a connection between mind and body. Adrenaline interferes with that connection. Activation moves the body towards the parasympathetic, not the sympathetic. The sympathetic is all about fight or flight. Freeze is the third f-word in the description. Flight, flight or freeze is exactly what happens to athletes. Athletes who stay connected mind, body, and spirit, … they are the exceptions. The exceptions set records. ‘’Turn excitement into focus’’.
How does activation decrease injuries and increase the speed of recovery? When muscles are working in sync, in sequence, and fully activated, the body moves correctly. Too many simple-minded people treat a hamstring injury by treating the hamstring. To prevent hamstring injuries, the same people try to make the hamstring bigger and stronger. Athletic movements are sequenced chain-reactions. Weak links in the chain and improper sequencing leads to injuries. When the same compensation patterns are reinforced, injuries linger and recur.
There are constantly a lot of systems operating in the body which can be activated or influenced by NKS™:
-
Defensive patterns
-
Length-tension relations in muscles
-
Compensation patterns
-
Energetic muscle connections by neuro lymfatic reflexes
-
Inhibition muscle patterns
-
Kinetic chain function
-
Sling patterns
-
Biotensegrity
-
Mind-body relation
An aligned body functions in a zone 1, zone 2, zone 3 sequence.
The NKS™ system starts by testing what your body is doing now, so that changes can be clearly measured. This is done by simple muscle resistance, strength and flexibility tests. The ability of a muscle to function correctly is measurable.
Sequencing must happen from Zone One outward to Zone Two and from Zone Two to Zone Three. If the sequencing does not originate with the psoas, all bets are off.
The psoas and diaphragm basically function as the same unit. The diaphragm expands the lungs downward, the psoas connects the lower vertebrae to the femur and functions as a hip flexor, but has a stabilizing function too. The reciprocal muscle to the psoas is the glute. The diaphragm, psoas, and glute make up Zone One.
The next step is to activate the body to breathe correctly to create a parasympathetic response. (nearly everyone still gets this wrong.) Breathing is the key. Good breathing gives a better focus and awareness. Once the first priority is being met effectively, we run through the body’s sequencing patterns, testing and activating, so muscles and structures can return to their correct right patterns – they start doing their own job, rather than someone else’s. Then the body and brain can integrate and allow the you to work effectively and efficiently. A stress-free body can go back to working at full capacity, with full energy.
